Publican Wilko Johnson passes away at age 75

The musician rose to stardom in the pub-rock group that helped create British punk in the 1970s and later had a prosperous solo career.

In 2013, Johnson received a diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer and was given just 10 months to live.

This is the announcement we never wanted to make, and we do it, on behalf of Wilko's family and the band, with a very heavy heart: Wilko has passed away.

Wilko Johnson passed away. On Monday night, November 21, 2022, he passed away at home.

After being informed that he was terminal, he first opted to forgo treatment and instead started a farewell tour, made an album called Going Back Home with Roger Daltrey of The Who, and visited friends all over the world to bid them farewell.

Later tests revealed his cancer to be less malignant than initially suspected, and an operation was suggested as a potential life-saving measure.

The musician was certified cancer-free following an 11-hour treatment that involved the removal of a tumor, his pancreas, spleen, pieces of his stomach and intestines, and some blood vessels from the area surrounding his liver.

In an interview in 2019, he said about his himself : “It seems very unjust but I’m in the clear and feeling pretty healthy other than I’m missing a pancreas but apart from that I’m really fit.”
